Saint Raymond (aka 23-year-old Callum Burrows) combines the uniquely British idiosyncratic energy of Foals with the arena-sized appeal of Vampire Weekend.
He boasts melodic anthems that pack an immediate punch from their infectious choruses with lyrics that pithily address the poignancy and euphoria of life in your late teens and early twenties.
Looking back, it seems music was always going to be the focus of his life. He acquired from his Dad a love of Simple Minds and The Police being particular favourites and the chiming, charming Afrobeat of Paul Simon. By 16, he was actively gigging around the Nottingham circuit. “I played pubs, open-mic nights, anything I could get.”Just Callum and his guitar, he would perform a mix of original songs and covers of tunes by Bombay Bicycle Club, King Charles and Oasis“I got such a buzz out of it,” he says of his early gigging days.
