The shortlisted nominations for the Norfolk Youth Awards 2019, organised by city centre youth charity, OPEN Youth Trust (OPEN) have been announced.
These awards highlight young people’s astonishing achievements and to give them the recognition and encouragement they deserve and this is the second year that OPEN has organised these awards.
Nearly 100 nominations were received from individuals, schools, local businesses and youth charities and young people have been nominated in eight different categories each celebrating a different aspect of achievement. The categories were looking for young people who have made a significant contribution within their community, who have excelled in education, achieved sporting success or artistic performance, gone the extra mile in volunteering, undertaken outstanding charity work, persevered tough challenges or worked well as a team. There was also a Hero category where young people could nominate an adult who in their eyes has made a difference to their lives.
Jackie Bircham, from New Anglia LEP, and one of the judges for the awards said: “The nominations received recount examples of ordinary young people with extraordinary commitment. We heard of young people taking the initiative to find new ways to serve those around them, alongside others who tirelessly and without complaint get on with the challenging situations they find themselves in - often resulting in the most inspiring examples to their peers”.
John Gordon-Saker, CEO for OPEN said: “The judging panel had a difficult task, but their shortlist has been chosen (see link below) and the award winners and runners up will be announced at a glittering ceremony which will take place at OPEN on Wednesday 24th April 2019. The event will be hosted by Joe Crowley, Ambassador of OPEN Youth Trust and presenter of The One Show and Countryfile, and promises to be an amazing opportunity to honour young people in Norfolk”.
Main sponsors of the event are City College Norwich, Norfolk County Council, Norwich City Football Club, with special award sponsors Spire Solicitors and Norfolk Constabulary.
The Awards reception at the start of the evening, featuring canapes and refreshments, will be sponsored by Larking Gowen. Their sponsorship has been headed by Giles Kerkham, Director.
