Local youth charity OPEN Youth Trust (OPEN) will be welcoming West End stars from across the country later this month...

...to their West End Experience – a week-long workshop running from Sunday 18th – Friday 22nd August aimed at giving young people, aged between 7 and 17, the chance to train and perform live on stage, learning the craft from professionals.

The first star to be bringing her expertise to OPEN is Alice Fearn, famous for her roles in Les Misérables, Oliver! and Wicked along with various parts in movies such as Mamma Mia, Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland. Accompanying Sara will be other stars including Jason Grey (West Side Story) and Nikki Mae (Aladdin, Mamma Mia!, Evita, High school musical and Hair), Richard Munday (Jesus in JCS, Mickey in Blood brothers, Raoul in Phantom of the Opera) and Genevieve Nicole (Chorus line, dirty rotten scoundrels, Rat Pack, Spamalot, Chicago). Each bringing their own skillset and years of experience in the industry, they make the course a once in a lifetime chance to learn all the tips and tricks of the trade.

Children will spend five days learning from the actors, choreographers and directors themselves, creating short performances as they go and honing their skills before taking part in a final showcase event at 6.30pm on Thursday 22nd August.  This showcase is open to the general public and held in the venue’s grand Banking Hall with professional lighting and cinematography.

Charlene, OPEN’s Head of Youth Services and organiser of the West End Experience says:  “We’re all very excited for this year’s course, it’s the professional performers who really make it a special experience by bringing their experience and all the secrets that you just can’t learn anywhere else – it’s a must-do for anyone interested in the industry.”

Mat, a previous participant of West End Experience, says: “The last West End Experience was my first show, we learned so many routines throughout the week. The teachers were really great, and all the choreographers who came in were amazing, we wouldn't have been able to do it without them. It was a real boost of confidence.”
