An exciting new youth theatre company launched yesterday at OPEN in Norwich for young people aged 8-19. Echo Youth Theatre (EYT) aims to provide challenging and varied theatre experiences for young people in Norfolk, but without the burden of high fees and regular classes.

The launch event at OPEN on Sunday was full of young people and their families, excited to find out about the opportunities available to them with this new and innovative company. Set up by Dan Rayner, Jo Myers and Dave Myers, Echo Youth Theatre aims to fill a gap in the market in Norwich, for high quality theatre that inspires young people to take to the stage without the burden of regular classes and termly fees.

Although co-founders Dan, Jo and Dave introduced the company to the audience, the launch event was determined to showcase the talent of young people in Norfolk. 18 year old Olivia Williams compered the event and the evening was full of performances by new members of the company. EYT also announced their first two productions in 2018, the East Anglian premier of the musical, ‘A Little Princess’ and an exciting steampunk inspired version of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Echo Youth Theatre is working in partnership with the OPEN Trust and John Gordon-Saker, CEO at OPEN said: “This is a very exciting partnership for OPEN and will help us fulfil our mission to make a positive difference to the lives of young people. Not only will it bring in a new wave of 8-19 year olds to experience everything our venue has to offer, it will give our existing young people the opportunity to learn more about theatre craft, and also introduce them to the world of auditioning, rehearsing and performing at a different level. This is a creative partnership that is a win-win for both parties.”

For just £15 per year (or £10 before 1st January), members of EYT will have the chance to experience all aspects of theatre production and the company are keen to support young people, both on stage and back stage, to achieve their theatrical ambitions. Workshop Co-ordinator, Cathy Wilson said, “Becoming a member of Echo Youth Theatre will bring access to a wide range of workshops and social events, including regular theatre trips with discounted ticket prices. Members will receive advance notice of audition opportunities, exclusive access to the workshop programme, with priority booking, and invitations to our social events and theatre trips.”
